NEMA enclosure project acceptance covers aesthetics, dimensions, structure, accessories, and documentation. For appearance, inspect sheet metal deformation, welds, folded edges, sharp corners, coatings, and surface scratches. For dimensions, verify overall sizes, mounting holes, door gaps, cutout coordinates, internal mounting space, and cable entry points.

Structural checks include door swing direction, hinges, latches, gaskets, viewing windows, mounting plates, DIN rails, plinths, grounding lugs, and removable panels. NEMA 4X also requires verifying materials and corrosion resistance data; NEMA 6 demands confirmation of submersion test criteria; NEMA 13 requires compatibility checks for oils, coolants, and gasket materials. If fitted with fans, AC units, heat exchangers, or filters, inspect thermal control components and maintenance access.

Post-installation, check wall or base anchoring, enclosure plumbness, full door swing, cable bend radiuses, gland tightness, ground continuity, bottom water accumulation, and maintenance clearance. If adding pushbuttons, displays, fans, cables, or cutouts later, update drawings and re-evaluate NEMA ratings. Maintenance logs should track gasket condition, locks, hinges, coatings, entries, internal temperatures, contamination buildup, and field modifications to ensure long-term traceability.
