As enclosure width increases, a single large door adds weight, hinge load, and risk of door sag. Adding displays, pushbuttons, meters, or viewing windows further strains operation during opening and closing. A double-door design distributes door weight across both sides, making each door easier to open and service.

Double doors also reduce door swing clearance. In hallways, equipment walkways, or between adjacent enclosures, a single wide door can block passage when fully open; double doors allow opening one side or limiting swing range based on available space. However, external maintenance clearance and standing room must still be verified when both doors open simultaneously.

A double-door design is not simply splitting a single door in half. Center seams, locking points, door frames, hinges, mounting plates, and internal layouts require redesign. If a project lacks significant width, maintenance, or zoning requirements, evaluate single-door enclosures for cost, sealing, and operational convenience.
