The center seam is a key structure distinguishing double-door enclosures from single-door units. When closed, the left and right doors must form a continuous contact and seal path at the center. Seam width, door flanges, gaskets, latch compression, and center mullions all affect overall protection.

For outdoor, washdown, or dusty environments, the center seam must block rain, spray, dust, and dirt. Designs may use center mullions, overlapping edges, gasket combinations, or other closures based on the target IP/NEMA rating and site conditions.

Sealing extends beyond the outer door face. Check continuity across top and bottom frames, the center area, latch perimeters, removable panels, and cable entries. Minor door sag or uneven latch pressure can cause local compression loss at the seam, requiring full perimeter seal inspection during acceptance.
