In IP68, "6" denotes dust-tight protection, while "8" signifies continuous submersion testing under specified conditions. Unlike IP67, IP68 submersion depth and duration are typically agreed upon by the manufacturer and user or defined by project standards; a rating of "IP68" does not imply identical submersion performance across all products.

IP68 does not denote indefinite submersion or automatic compliance with high-pressure jets, spraying, or high-temperature washdowns. Actual performance depends on doors, seals, cable glands, connectors, viewing windows, drainage designs, and assembly quality.

When selecting single-door, outdoor galvanized, or stainless steel IP68 electrical enclosures, define the actual water environment: temporary pooling, equipment pits, damp areas, or continuous immersion. Project suitability can only be confirmed by verifying test depth, duration, and complete configurations.
