For dustproof, drip-proof, or outdoor applications, a hinged enclosure requires a continuous mating surface between the frame and door. The gasket must cover primary seams and maintain proper compression. No noticeable gaps should exist around hinges, latches, flanges, and removable panels.

Gaskets alone cannot compensate for structural deformation. Sealing performance depends on enclosure and door rigidity, hinge placement, latch distribution, and manufacturing tolerances. Large doors may warp over time or during transport; verify perimeter compression during design and acceptance.

Include cable entries, viewing windows, pushbuttons, and connectors in the sealing evaluation. Field-drilled holes or modified door accessories compromise original ratings and require re-evaluating overall ingress protection.
