The second digit "7" in IP57 designates protection against temporary immersion under specified conditions. However, design cannot focus solely on the enclosure top and doors; base plates, plinths, cable entries, and drainage structures are equally critical.

For outdoor floor-standing steel IP57 enclosures, plinth height and ground drainage directly affect water ingress risks. Bottom cable entries, removable gland plates, and bracket joints require sealing and fastening methods matching the target ingress protection rating.

Temporary immersion protection is not equivalent to continuous submersion or high-pressure washdown. If exposure to standing water, flooding, washdown water, or continuous spraying is anticipated, specify the actual water depth, duration, and cleaning methods so engineers can evaluate whether IP57 suffices or alternative ratings and designs are needed.
