Some devices generate heat during operation, such as power modules, controllers, communication gear, and industrial electronics. Fully sealing an IP45 enclosure can impede internal heat dissipation, whereas adding vents may compromise protection against solid objects and water jets, requiring a balance between thermal management and ingress defense.

Designs should evaluate heat output, operating duration, ambient temperature, enclosure dimensions, and acceptable internal temperature ranges. Depending on project requirements, natural ventilation, louvers, fans, filters, heat sinks, or other thermal management designs may be needed.

Ventilation orientation, placement, and protection methods must align with the installation location. To meet IP45 standards, ventilation components, filters, and external hoods must be assessed as an integrated system, rather than testing the bare enclosure alone.
