During delivery acceptance, verify the enclosure's external dimensions, mounting holes, doors, hinges, locks, gaskets, cable entries, viewing windows, pushbutton cutouts, mounting plates, and grounding points. For large weatherproof electrical enclosures, also inspect the base, lifting points, door opening radius, and internal equipment mounting. For compact enclosures, focus on verifying sufficient internal wiring and maintenance clearances after cutouts are made.
Post-installation, inspect enclosure verticality, fasteners, door closure, latch compression, bottom drainage, cable glands, and surrounding water accumulation. During outdoor operation, regularly clear debris, dust, leaves, and snow from the top, and inspect gaskets for aging and hinges/latches for looseness or corrosion.
If adding displays, pushbuttons, fans, cables, or conduits later, update cutout drawings and re-evaluate overall ingress protection. Nominal terms like "waterproof" or "weatherproof" do not replace formal acceptance criteria; projects must maintain records aligned with validated IP/NEMA ratings, test specs, and site conditions.
