Material selection depends on enclosure weight, internal equipment, installation environment, bracket load capacity, corrosion conditions, aesthetic requirements, and order volume. Steel enclosures typically require focusing on structural strength and surface protection; aluminum enclosures can be evaluated for lightweighting and machinability; stainless steel grades must be selected based on humidity, salt spray, and washdown environments.

For pole-mounted products, material weight directly affects stress on brackets, clamps, and poles; for surface-mounted products, it dictates load-bearing requirements for walls, backplates, and fasteners. Surface finishes must also account for outdoor UV exposure, rain, dust, and temperature fluctuations.

Materials and coatings alone do not guarantee a specific IP/NEMA rating. Doors, gaskets, cable glands, mounting holes, and assembly methods must still be validated through the complete enclosure structure.
